Breathe

Hello!!!

I hope you are faring well in this crisis. During this time of confusion and isolation, there are a few things we can do for ourselves.

The number one thing we can do is meditate. Take time to deep breathe. So often we live our lives with a reduced amount of oxygen due to the shallow breathing we do regularly. When we take time throughout the day for deep breathing exercises, we are exercising the lungs, expanding the capacity, and giving our brains the oxygen, it is starved to have. When we starve our brains, we have fatigue, memory loss or difficulties, lack of concentration, and that whole “scattered brain” feeling. Sound familiar?




Take five minutes at least four times a day to just sit and breathe. It will make all the difference in the world. It may not actually take a whole five minutes to complete this exercise. You will complete each breath fourteen times. When you take the tenth and fourteenth breaths you will blow the air out hard for the full five counts.

Full Breath: Inhale to the count of 5. Hold your breath to the count of 5. Exhale to the count of 5.



To count a full breath, place your thumb to your fingertip upon inhaling. When you exhale release the fingertip. Upon the next breath move to the next fingertip. You have 8 fingertips. So, if you start on the index finger of the right hand moving to the middle finger then ring finger then pinkie then move to the left hand then back to the right and then you the left with the same fingertip pattern you will end on the right middle finger on the tenth breath and the left middle finger on the 14th.

I have included a link to a recording to guide you while you are learning this new exercise. I trust that you will soon not need it. 😊 Eventually, you will be able to move to counts of 7 and 10. I rarely ever do 10.

Another good exercise is grounding. I will soon have a grounding recording as well. In the meantime, be sure to ground while doing this exercise.
